Frequently Asked Questions
As I receive questions, I'll add them to this page.
What are the homework expectations?
I'm a firm believer in the importance for all of us to have time to pursue our education, our hobbies, and our relationships with friends and family. If students work hard at school to complete their assignments during class time, I believe they should be able to use their time at home to pursue other interests and hobbies.
Some parents have specifically requested additional homework so that their children can practice 4th grade standards at home, so I provide digital/online practice options for those who would like to use them. They include MobyMax Science, MobyMax Social Studies, Khan Academy, i-Ready Math/Reading, Imagine Learning, and Prodigy Math and English. Feel free to use whichever option you prefer if you're looking for additional ways to practice at home. Students are always encouraged to read for fun as well!
However, I am including the slide (above) that shows what the required homework is. Required homework will usually include workbook pages that students started during classwork time but did not complete. This is a continuation of the lessons worked on in class each day.
What are the Take Home Folders?
Each Wednesday, students should bring home their school Take Home Folder. This will contain any checked/graded classwork or tests, as well as any communication being sent from the classroom, school, or district. Sometimes papers need to be signed or completed and returned (it will be indicated on the paper). Please remove all papers, sign the folder, and have your child return it on the following school day. If anything needed to be filled out or signed, please make sure you put that paper back into the folder before returning it to school.
What is Fun Friday?
Students know that there are perks to being responsible and respectful throughout the week. On Friday near the end of the day, students who have completed their weekly classwork and shown respect to others will be able to enjoy some free time to play and socialize with friends. Students who need additional time to complete their work will be able to do so in the afternoon prior to dismissal. If students have made disrespectful choices throughout the week, they will have the opportunity to use this time to reflect on those choices and make a plan to reset and try again.
How can I see my child's grades?
We are using Infinite Campus to keep families informed about grades. The school will send information about how you can gain access to this program.
How can I see my child's progress/points in Classcraft?
If you would like access to your child's "Game Feed" - which lets you see the points your child earns or loses based on choices each day, please refer to the paper I sent home with your unique login information. If that slip has been misplaced, send me an email to let me know you'd like to be connected. I'll be able to add you from my dashboard, which should generate an email to let you know you've been connected. This is a GREAT way to be able to connect with your child about their day.

How will I know if my student is completing his/her classwork each week?
I send the Take Home Folders home each Wednesday. In that folder, you will find any graded/checked classwork. Math, Reading, and Writing will have a "work menu" stapled to all work for the prior week. This will also indicate what the assignment was and whether or not the work was completed. Please see images below so you know what to look for in the Take Home Folder.
