Parent Teacher Conferences
Fall conferences are happening on October 5 and 6 (no school for those two days). If you haven't signed up for a conference yet and would like to meet, you can sign up here. Alternately, anytime throughout the year, you can use my SignUpGenius conference signup page to request a Wednesday afternoon conference.
Math
Students will be taking their first math checkpoint (quiz). This will cover multiplication concepts we have been covering in class so far. We will review for this assessment for a few days prior to taking the checkpoint on Thursday.
Writing
We're continuing to work with our personal narratives. This week we will be working on punctuating dialogue and adding more specific details, including using more descriptive language in our writing.
Reading
Last week I modeled how to take a reading unit test, including how to respond to reading questions by citing evidence from the stories. Students followed along with me as we did this together as a class. This gives them a good foundation about how to take reading assessments that we'll see throughout the school year. Next time they will take the assessment independently.
This week we're beginning a new reading unit which focuses on realistic fiction, paying close attention to characters, setting, plot, and identifying problem and solution within a story.
Science
Last week we began learning about structures of organisms, including identifying structures of the human body and what functions they serve. We will continue this unit by exploring structures of plants and animals.
