Picture Day
Picture Day is on Wednesday, September 20. The order form was sent home last week in students' Take Home Folders. Please make sure your child brings his/her order form on Wednesday if you plan to order copies.
Anti-Bullying Lessons
Anti-bullying lessons with Ms. Hankes begin this week. We will have one lesson each week for the next month.
Homework Update
Students have voted to change our homework format. They prefer to have online options, but for students who may experience internet outages and for students who prefer paper homework, I will provide an alternate activity they can complete instead of the online assignments. See below for details (also posted on SeeSaw).
Headphones
Please remind your child to bring his/her headphones to school each day.
iPads
Please make sure your student charges his/her iPad each night before going to bed. We use the iPads throughout the day and with a full charge, they have more than enough battery to last through the day. However, when they aren't at 100% in the morning, they don't tend to make it to the last activity.
Math
Our first "Checkpoint" assessment is scheduled for Thursday. Students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their mastery of multiplication strategies we have been practicing over the last few weeks. On Friday I will go over the checkpoint with students and provide them with the opportunity to try again on any problem they missed.
Reading
We have been practicing annotating stories we've read, a strategy that helps foster recall and attention to detail while reading. This week students will practice a reading assessment with me modeling how to apply this skill when reading and answering questions about longer passages. In future units students will be applying this skill independently.
Writing
Our students continue working on their personal narrative masterpieces. This week we are focusing on two areas: writing an interesting lead and adding dialogue to our stories.
Science
This week we are launching our first science unit: Structures and Functions of Organisms.
