Math
This week we're continuing to work with multiplication, and we'll also be exploring how it relates to division. Students are also working with word problems, learning how to identify which operation needs to be used as well as which numbers they need to work with within the problem. Many students assume they have to multiply the first two numbers they see in a problem, so we're taking time to really try and understand what is being asked before we begin calculating the answers.
Reading
This week we're continuing to read narrative nonfiction texts to explore how science can help us understand how things work. Students are also practicing to identify cause and effect in the texts they read. We'll take our unit 1, week 4 unit test at the end of the week.
Writing
This week students will continue working on their second masterpiece, a personal narrative. They'll be adding dialogue, selecting detailed words and language to use to show their story. They're also being encouraged to include language that shows readers how they felt. Finally, students will practice identifying where new paragraphs should begin and editing their stories to reflect those breaks. As always students should be using proper capitalization and punctuation, as well as grade level spelling.
