Math
Last week we took our unit 3 test, which covered fractions and decimals. We will be returning to fractions in a later unit, so mastery was not the expectation this first time around. Students became familiar with finding common denominators, adding and subtracting fractions, comparing fractions and decimals, and solving word problems with fractions. This week we will begin unit 4, which covers addition, subtraction, and measurement. We will spend some time revisiting place value, rounding, comparing, and doing multi-digit addition and subtraction.
Reading
We are working on our unit about poetry (specifically haiku and lyric poetry). Students are also exploring figurative language such as metaphors and similes.
Writing
Students turned in their essays last week, and this week we will dive into opinion writing. We will closely focus on creating detailed paragraphs with topic sentences, detail sentences, and conclusion sentences. Students will also continue to practice using the standard conventions of writing, including correct capitalization, punctuation, and spelling of grade-level words.
